Programming question/survey [Apr. 3rd, 2008|09:17 pm]

Lets suppose you have a multidimensional array filled with data declared like:
int md_array[5][10][3]

And you wanted to put the values a 1D array declared like:
int 1d_array[150]

How would you do it? Its not so much that I need to know how its done, I want to know how you'd do it. This isn't an obfuscated c contest so please post something that you'd actually use. There's a reason why I'm asking this, but I'll reveal it after I get a few replies.

C style syntax preferred...

Now, all I have to do is the actual project... [Mar. 2nd, 2007|12:23 am]
[music |Katatonia - Don't Tell A Soul]

But hopefully this helps me get it done:

Large Image )

Just a basic drag and drop program to visually make a loading pattern and obtain the string needed for the input file. Loading pattern being worked on is on the right.

FdH, sort of a measure of the power of the assembly compared to the average assembly, on the left (limit for us is 1.55). These values need to be loaded from an output file (text from the file is inserted into the textbox below it). This half of the program is basically just a reference for when you're shuffling assemblies.

Currently there's a problem where you can't swap assemblies on the top and left edges. Maybe I'll fix that at some point, but it can get complicated.

Feed, once burned, and twice burned assembly lists are on the far right. Two once burned assemblies are not in use because of a difference between assemblies available between the pattern used for the image and the current list.

So, I think my Finite Element project might be finished. I still need to run it through Ansys and compare, but so far so good. The problem involves a 4x6 inch plate with a 1.5 inch diameter hole in the middle. The plate has a pressure of 2000psi outward applied at the left and right edges. The code was 196 lines in Matlab (including comments). Here's the solution: And the Matlab code... )

Does anyone want to do one of my projects for me? There are 3 of them so there's plenty to choose from.

1) Develop a finite element analysis code for 2D plane stress.
2) Make an IR recorder/playback device (programmable remote).
3) Analysis of the effects of different axial flux shapes on the characteristics of the Grand Gulf nuclear reactor using the ZEBRA computer code.

The first 2 are due in about a week and the third in about 2 weeks. And I have an exam this week in the class that has the 3rd project. This should be a fun week.

IM Client Survey [Jul. 30th, 2006|10:34 pm]
Yes, for the third or fourth time in a few years I'm thinking about making an IM client in C#. This time it seems that I have a decent protocol implementation to work on (OscarLib licensed under the LGPL) so it might be more possible. I'm aiming for a light/thin client (I hate bloat), but need to know what people like in a client. So, please leave some feedback in a reply and feel free to get other people to respond!

0) What OS and AIM client are you currently using?

1) What core functionality do you expect out of an IM client?

2) What are the five to ten most important features to you?

3) What are your feelings on the following: The ability to split into multiple tab groups (horizontally or vertically) in the same window (or perhaps even different windows). This would allow you to see multiple IMs at the same time. Is it necessary or is it just bloat? It would obviously be one of the more challenging parts, so would it be worth it? How would you rate its importance on a scale of 1-10?

4) Any other comments/suggestions? Interested in helping?

It's huge!

So, now what do I do with my old 17" monitor? It seems to be on its way to dying (though not there yet) and there's a pin missing (usually a staple takes the place of the pin. I can't remember the last time I threw out a piece of hardware, and is that even the proper way to dispose of it?

Because it's so popular, here's my list of stuff to do before the thanksgiving break:

1. Friday - ME 440 Homework on State Space
2. Friday - ME 412 Homework on Convection and External Flows
3. Wednesday - ME 440 Homework on Frequency Analysis and Electrical Systems
4. Wednesday - ME 412 Exam on Transient Conduction, Convection, and External Flows
5. Wednesday - NucE 310W Paper on the NRC
6. Wednesday - IE 312 Lab Report
7. Friday (11/18) - ME 440 Exam on First, Second, Third order systems, State Space, Frequency Response, and Electrical Systems
8. Tuesday (11/22) - IE 312 Lab Report

I guess it's not too much, but it's only 11 credits (Tennis is now over). The exams were supposed to be earlier, but classes fell behind and they pushed them back :(

We should play football over the break.
